Summary of the Automation and Controls Engineer:
We are seeking a talented and experienced Automation and Controls Engineer to join our dynamic team in the pharmaceutical industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automation and a deep understanding of automating equipment within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. As an Automation and Controls Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining automation systems to improve efficiency, reliability, and compliance within our manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities of the Automation and Controls Engineer:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, and validation to identify automation needs and requirements.
- Design and develop automation solutions for various manufacturing processes and equipment, including but not limited to, manufacturing lines, packaging equipment, and quality control systems.
- Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems, HMI (Human-Machine Interface) applications, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, and other control systems.
- Integrate automation systems with existing manufacturing infrastructure and equipment to ensure seamless operation and compatibility.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement safety measures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as FDA (Food and Drug Administration) guidelines and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).
- Provide technical support and training to manufacturing personnel on the operation and maintenance of automation systems.
- Participate in the commissioning, qualification, and validation of automation systems and equipment.
- Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends related to automation in the pharmaceutical sector.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of automation solutions.
Requirements of the Automation and Controls Engineer:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience working as an Automation Engineer in the pharmaceutical industry.
- Proficiency in programming PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) and HMI/SCADA software.
- Strong knowledge of automation principles, instrumentation, control systems, and industrial networking protocols.
- Experience with regulatory compliance requirements in the pharmaceutical industry (FDA, GMP, etc.).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex automation issues.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and compliance.
- Familiarity with validation processes and documentation practices in a regulated environment.
Preferred Qualifications of the Automation and Controls Engineer:
- Master's degree in Engineering or related field.
- Certification in automation technologies (e.g., ISA Certified Automation Professional).
- Experience with MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) and/or DCS (Distributed Control Systems).
- Knowledge of data analytics and machine learning for process optimization.
