Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Order Management
- The Buyer manages materials procurement, processing orders, expediting deliveries, and ensuring alignment with production schedules. This involves managing purchase orders and tracking order status to ensure timely receipt of materials.
Supplier Relationship Management
- Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships is crucial. The Buyer will conduct supplier engagements and ensure ERP system setups, qualifications, and compliance. This includes resolving supplier issues related to quality and invoicing, as well as negotiating pricing and terms for optimal supply chain efficiency.
Inventory & Supply Chain Optimization
- Responsibilities include managing inventory levels and minimizing stockouts, along with coordinating material discontinuation activities when needed. The Buyer aims to improve inventory turnover rates while meeting production demands.
Regulatory Compliance
- The Buyer must ensure purchasing activities comply with ISO/FDA standards and other regulatory requirements, especially relevant in regulated industries such as medical devices.
Cross-functional Communication
- Regularly participating in cross-functional meetings (such as production and project meetings) is essential to communicate risks, delays, and inventory concerns. This role also involves reporting metrics and maintaining records for internal analysis.
Required Skills & Experience
Education and Experience
- A Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of procurement experience in manufacturing are required, with ERP/MRP expertise.
Technical Skills
- Preferred skills include reading engineering drawings and knowledge of electromechanical components. Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., medical devices) is advantageous.
Soft Skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with an understanding of the supply chain within a manufacturing setting.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- The Buyer will work onsite in a manufacturing environment, with some computer-based work and moderate physical demands, including occasional lifting of items up to 20 pounds. The job may require occasional long hours and up to 10% travel.
