Mt client is seeking a highly experienced Director of Engineering to lead and manage the engineering department for the boiler and water heater manufacturing operations. This role will focus on driving new product development (NPD) initiatives, improving current product lines, and ensuring that all engineering activities meet industry standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the boiler/water heater industry and proven expertise in product design, development, and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the engineering team in designing, developing, and launching new boiler and water heater products from concept to production.
- Oversee and manage the product development lifecycle, including concept design, prototyping, testing, validation, and market launch.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product management, manufacturing, sales, marketing) to ensure new products meet customer needs and comply with industry regulations.
- Drive innovation by identifying new technologies, materials, and processes to improve product performance and efficiency.
- Ensure all designs meet safety, quality, and environmental standards, including regulatory requirements for the boiler and water heater industry.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
- Develop and manage the engineering department budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to meet project timelines and business goals.
- Coordinate with the manufacturing team to ensure seamless transition from design to production, optimizing processes for efficiency and quality.
- Stay updated with industry trends, competitor products, and regulatory changes, adjusting the engineering strategy accordingly.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and ensure that engineering goals align with business objectives.
- Lead efforts to improve existing products, addressing issues related to performance, reliability, and customer feedback.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree (MBA or Master's in Engineering) preferred.
- Minimum of 10+ years of engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the boiler, water heater, or HVAC industry.
- Proven experience in new product development (NPD), from initial concept to successful market launch.
- Strong technical knowledge of boiler and water heater systems, including combustion, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and materials science.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a track record of building and developing high-performing engineering teams.
- Familiarity with industry regulations and standards, such as ASME, UL, and other relevant codes.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver on time and within budget.
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
