Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all employees when machine or system issues arise.
- Lead efforts to diagnose and correct system faults.
- Plan and coordinate shifts and workforce deployment, including mechanics, hydraulic technicians, and electricians.
- Organise and manage repairs, modifications, and investments.
- Develop and oversee training and development programs.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Oversee the procurement of spare parts and conduct price comparisons.
- Play an active role in continuously improving the production process, implementing viable suggestions.
- Share responsibility for maintaining adherence to occupational health and safety protocols.
Technical Expertise:
- Comprehensive technical expertise and hands-on experience in mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, with foundational knowledge of electrical and electronic systems.
- In-depth understanding of individual machine and system workflows.
- Strong analytical abilities for evaluating repair times.
- Effective management of personnel, including technicians specialised in mechanics, hydraulics, and electronics.
- Proficient in utilising measurement, testing, and auxiliary equipment.
- Skilled in interpreting and working from technical drawings and schematics.
Operational Duties:
- Responsible for managing a department effectively.
- Authorised to issue instructions to team members.
- Plan and coordinate all necessary work activities.
- Maintain a deep understanding of all operational processes within the systems.
- Compare pricing for external services and spare parts procurement.
- Oversee the ordering of spare parts and engage external services for repair tasks.
- Ensure tasks are executed as assigned and monitor progress.
- Plan and oversee repairs, system modifications, investments, and process optimisation's.
- Organise and manage staff training and professional development initiatives.
- Handle shift scheduling.
- Determine machine changeover times (e.g., for cutting heads or blades) in consultation with production.
- Responsible for maintaining the availability and reliability of machines and systems.
- Evaluate downtime metrics and develop corrective measures.
- Create and enforce maintenance schedules while managing associated costs.
- Participate in production and technical meetings to provide insights.
- Enforce compliance with internal standards, as well as safety and environmental regulations.
Documentation and Tools:
- Utilise various PC software, such as maintenance planning tools.
- Maintain thorough documentation for machines and systems.
- Refer to hydraulic and pneumatic schematics and circuit diagrams.
- Use training and instructional materials for staff education.
- Adhere to operating instructions, work guidelines, and safety documentation.
- Comply with quality management (QM) documentation requirements.
