Position Summary:
We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Commodity Director to lead our procurement and supply chain efforts for key commodities within the construction industry. This role involves developing and implementing category strategies, negotiating contracts, managing supplier relationships, and optimizing supply chain operations to support business goals. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of construction materials and services, strong leadership skills, and a proven track record in commodity management.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Commodity Management:
- Develop and execute comprehensive commodity strategies aligned with organizational objectives, focusing on cost, quality, and delivery performance.
- Identify market trends, risks, and opportunities to ensure competitive advantage and supply chain resilience.
Supplier Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain strategic partnerships with key suppliers to secure reliable sources of materials and services.
- Conduct regular supplier performance reviews and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Mitigate risks by identifying alternative suppliers and developing contingency plans.
Contract Negotiation and Management:
- Lead complex negotiations for long-term agreements, ensuring favorable terms and compliance with company policies.
- Manage supplier contracts, including adherence to regulatory and legal requirements within the construction industry.
Cost Optimization and Budget Management:
- Develop cost-saving initiatives to meet or exceed financial targets without compromising quality.
- Monitor and analyze commodity pricing, market conditions, and cost drivers to inform procurement strategies.
Collaboration and Cross-Functional Leadership:
- Work closely with project managers, engineering teams, and procurement staff to ensure alignment of sourcing activities with construction project needs.
- Collaborate with finance and operations teams to forecast demand, manage budgets, and track spending.
Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Utilize data-driven approaches to monitor supplier performance, track key metrics, and optimize decision-making.
- Prepare regular reports on commodity strategy performance and present insights to senior leadership.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of procurement or commodity management experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the construction industry.
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of construction materials, services, and supply chain dynamics.
- Proficiency in procurement and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms).
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance requirements in the construction industry.
