Job Title: Steel Commodity Manager

Job Overview: We are seeking a skilled and dynamic Steel Commodity Manager to lead the strategic sourcing and management of steel commodities. This role will involve the development and execution of sourcing strategies, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring a cost-effective and reliable supply of steel products for our operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the steel industry, global commodity markets, and supply chain management principles, along with a proven track record of driving value through strategic procurement.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Sourcing and Procurement:
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies for steel commodities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and budget.
- Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, negotiate contracts, and manage long-term supplier relationships.
- Conduct market analysis to stay informed of price trends, supply chain risks, and industry developments.
- Ensure the timely procurement of steel products, balancing cost, quality, and delivery schedules.
Supplier Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key steel suppliers globally and domestically.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions to maximize value and minimize risk.
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve any issues related to quality, delivery, or cost.
Cost Management and Budgeting:
- Develop and manage the budget for steel commodity purchasing, optimizing spending across the company.
- Analyze steel cost fluctuations and propose cost-saving initiatives or alternatives.
- Track and report on key metrics such as cost per ton, delivery lead time, and inventory levels.
Risk Management and Compliance:
- Identify potential risks in the steel supply chain (e.g., price volatility, supply disruptions) and implement mitigation strategies.
- Ensure all purchasing activities comply with internal policies, legal regulations, and industry standards.
- Stay updated on global economic, political, and environmental factors that may affect the steel market.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with internal teams (e.g., engineering, manufacturing, logistics) to understand their steel requirements and ensure effective communication across departments.
- Provide expertise and insights to support business decisions related to steel supply and costs.
Reporting and Analytics:
- Prepare and present regular reports on market conditions, supplier performance, and budget compliance.
- Conduct cost-benefit analysis to drive continuous improvement in procurement processes.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in commodity management, procurement, or supply chain management, specifically in steel or related industries.
- Strong understanding of the steel market, commodity pricing trends, and the global supply chain landscape.
- Proven track record of negotiating contracts, managing supplier relationships, and delivering cost savings.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to evaluate data and make informed decisions.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), and experience with procurement software or ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field.
- Industry certifications (e.g., CPSM, C.P.M.) preferred.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing and just-in-time procurement strategies.
Work Environment:
- This position is based in an office setting, with occasional travel required to meet with suppliers or visit manufacturing facilities.
- Some flexibility in work hours may be necessary due to time zone differences with global suppliers.
