The Role
Our client is looking for an experienced and driven Director of Transportation to join their team in Plymouth. This role involves overseeing operations, developing staff, and ensuring safe, accurate, and timely shipments to customers and distribution centers. The successful candidate will lead a team of 200+, promoting collaboration and development to achieve business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Achieve safety, service, and cost targets: Ensure all safety protocols are followed, maintain high service standards, and manage costs effectively to meet departmental goals.
- Lead strategic planning and daily operations: Develop and implement short and long-term strategies, oversee daily activities, and ensure alignment with overall business objectives.
- Develop and coach Transportation Managers and staff: Provide guidance, training, and support to managers and staff, fostering professional growth and a high-performance culture.
- Ensure compliance with DOT and other regulations: Monitor and enforce adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) and other relevant regulations to ensure safe and legal operations.
- Monitor production goals and troubleshoot delivery issues: Track performance metrics, identify and resolve issues affecting delivery schedules, and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Improve processes for efficiency and cost reduction: Continuously evaluate and enhance operational processes to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve overall performance
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Minimum seven years in transportation/delivery management: Experience in managing transportation or delivery operations, demonstrating a deep understanding of the industry's complexities and challenges.
- Strong leadership, communication, and people development skills: Proven ability to lead and inspire teams, effectively communicate across all levels of the organization, and foster professional growth among staff.
- Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and regulatory requirements: Comprehensive understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, ensuring all operations comply with legal standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Skilled in using Microsoft Office tools such as Excel, Outlook, and Teams for efficient data management, communication, and collaboration.
- Union experience is a must: Demonstrated experience working in unionized environments, including negotiating, interpreting collective bargaining agreements, and managing union relationships.
