We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Buyer for Raw Materials to join one of our key clients, based in Graz, Austria. This pivotal role is with a prominent multinational organisation within the steel sector, responsible for managing the procurement of essential raw materials on a global scale.
As the Lead Buyer, you will play a critical role in developing and executing procurement strategies, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the uninterrupted supply of high-quality raw materials. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to drive cost efficiency, maintain quality standards, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Procurement:
- Develop and implement procurement strategies for raw materials (focus on chromium) to align with corporate objectives.
- Conduct market analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities in the raw material supply chain.
Supplier Management:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with global suppliers and identify potential new sources.
- Evaluate supplier performance and ensure adherence to quality, cost, and delivery standards.
Negotiation & Contracting:
- Lead negotiations for pricing, terms, and conditions with suppliers to secure the best value.
- Manage and review contracts to ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with production, logistics, and quality assurance teams to ensure alignment of procurement activities with operational requirements.
- Liaise with finance to manage budgets, forecasts, and cost-saving initiatives.
Risk Management:
- Develop risk mitigation strategies for supply disruptions and fluctuating raw material prices.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and sustainability standards in the procurement process.
Leadership:
- Guide and mentor a team of procurement professionals.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the procurement function.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- Experience:
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in procurement or supply chain roles, preferably within the steel or heavy industry.
- Proven track record in managing complex, high-value supplier negotiations and contracts.
- Skills:
- Strong analytic, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
- In-depth knowledge of raw material markets, particularly in the steel sector.
- Proficiency in procurement software (e.g., SAP, Ariba) and MS Office Suite.
- Excellent communication skills in English; proficiency in German is a required.
