Manufacturing Engineer
Location: Urbana, OH
Reports To: Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Overview:
The Manufacturing Engineer will support and lead initiatives related to product development, process improvements, and capital equipment projects within a manufacturing environment. This role is critical in driving continuous improvement and enhancing manufacturing efficiency through innovative solutions and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead and support new product development, including product launch and process design improvements.
Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials, and fabrication/assembly processes.
Manage capital equipment and improvement projects to support manufacturing operations.
Continuously assess and implement new technologies and processes to enhance productivity, quality, and safety.
Support a safe working environment by adhering to safety protocols, achieving zero accident targets, and ensuring compliance with company safety standards.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to achieve world-class manufacturing status, including support for lean manufacturing practices and the company's production system.
Design and implement tooling, fixtures, and jigs for fabrication, welding, assembly, and/or painting.
Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to develop and maintain effective manufacturing solutions.
Provide regular updates on improvement and equipment projects, maintaining a clear action tracker for project progress.
Assist with troubleshooting and problem-solving of manufacturing equipment and processes in collaboration with the Maintenance team.
Participate in design reviews, feasibility studies, and corrective action teams.
Develop and implement work instructions, maintenance checklists, and operational procedures to improve manufacturing efficiency.
Foster a positive workplace culture through active engagement and teamwork.
Support the development of budgets and cost-efficient manufacturing strategies.
Participate in benchmarking activities to promote world-class manufacturing standards.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, etc.) or 5+ years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer in metal fabrication.
Strong project management experience and excellent communication skills.
Proficiency in mechanical drawings and computer literacy.
Preferred: Experience in sheet metal fabrication, welding, powder coating, or stamping; knowledge of Lean methodology and Six Sigma tools such as FMEA, 5-Why, and Pareto analysis
